How to live a fulfilling life? Why are people unsatisfied with their life to begin with? Is that is that a common thing in our society today?
This symptom that we’re seeing about people being unsatisfied, not content, unfulfilled, or even, you know, downright just unhappy. And I think this happens for a couple of reasons. And it’s really evident, just look at the state of mental health in our society right now, it’s two-fold. The first key thing is that social media – we’ve got access to so much kind of information now, it sets this expectation that my body should look like this, I should be exercising like this, I should be achieving this in my career, I can achieve this within 30 days kind of advertisements. It’s a bombardment and it’s no wonder why we feel not worthy on a daily basis, because there’s all this expectation kind of put on us. The thing is that when you’ve got that expectation, then it drives us to always be seeking, always trying to achieve something. And we’re feeling like we’re never actually really getting there. And so then that leads us to that feeling of being unsatisfied, because there’s never enough that’s going to actually make me kind of satisfied.
The second thing is we start our life, with all this enthusiasm, and we have this passion and this drive and everything else like that. And the education was really around – No, that’s right, this is wrong, if you want to do this, if you want to do that. And so we were forced in a particular kind of direction. And then we studied and then we picked up extra expectations off of people, such as partners and such. Gradually, before we know it, we’ve drifted further and further and further away to what our true passion and purpose was.
One of the things that I say is what we don’t see kills us. And so that’s where we find ourselves in a really disappointing situation, because we suddenly look up and go, “Where am I? I didn’t want to be here.” That’s when the unhappiness and those types of things where someone can feel that they’re really overwhelmed or kind of stuck in a rut. And I think that’s definitely a contributing factor. Because it’s so subtle. We don’t realize it, there’s so much to take our attention nowadays, we don’t have the time to be present with ourselves that we get distracted and we accidentally go off course over a period of time. And I think a lot of it is actually in the skills and capability kind of development of us to be honest and culturally as well.
For someone reading this and realizing, “Yeah, I think I have gone two degrees off for a long time” and that resonates, how can we start to work towards getting back on course?
The first stage of getting back on course, is to realize that you’re off course.
“You can’t solve a problem until you know that you’ve got a problem.”
There’s not like a massive red flag – it’s almost these subtle distractions, where we subtly go off course over a period of time that they’re harder to work on. So we missed the major red flags. So if you’re reading this right now, use this as the opportunity to stop and actually just consider for yourself:
- How satisfied am I in every area of my life?
- Am I content with every area of my life?
- And if I’m not as content, or as satisfied with an area of my life, that where I want to be? What do I need to do to bring it back on course?
And it is literally that simple. Use this opportunity for just stopping and actually analyzing the different areas of life, where are you at? And where do you want to be with them? So that you can diagnose for yourself that I’ve got a problem. And now I’m going to declare war on it. And I’m actually going to take the action that I need to, to move me from where I am, to where I want to be, it literally is that simple. So just use this as the prompter for doing that for yourself.
